Working around the clock, Caltrans along with partnering agencies, announced that they would open the upper deck of the Bay Bridge well ahead of schedule and, true to their word, the first cars began crossing the span
The westbound upper deck was closed around 8 p.m. Friday for lane reconfiguration at the Oakland touchdown just past the toll plaza.
Crews will begin reopening the bridge around 7 p.m., and the first cars are likely to cross the span around 8 p.m., officials said.
